New music from The Old Ceremony - "Fall Guy"

As we first mentioned back in April, local pop rockers The Old Ceremony have a new album coming out on July 14 via Yep Roc titled Sprinter.

After releasing the track "Magic Hour" from the album back then, they have now released another new song, the album's seventh track, "Fall Guy." Check out the song below.

The Old Ceremony will celebrate the release of Sprinter with back-to-back shows at the Cat's Cradle Back Room on July 17 and 18. Tickets are on sale now via Ticketfly for $10 for each show or $18 for both.

The Old Ceremony announces new album 'Sprinter,' two-night release show

Local pop rockers The Old Ceremony are back this summer with a new album on Yep Roc Records, their second for the label. The album is titled Sprinter and will be out on July 14.

Sprinter was produced by Mitch Easter and recorded at his studio, Fidelitorium Recordings. It features orchestral arrangements by Chris Stamey and a guest appearance by Mike Mills of R.E.M. on the songs "Fall Guy" and "Magic Hour." The Old Ceremony will celebrate the release of Sprinter with a two-night stand at the Cat's Cradle Back Room in Carrboro on July 17 and 18. Skylar Gudasz will open on July 17 and stephaniesĭd will open on July 18. Tickets will on sale at noon on Friday, April 24, via Ticketfly for $10 (a one-night ticket) or $18 (a two-night ticket).

The Old Ceremony to ring in new year in Chapel Hill

Chapel Hill rock club Local 506 has been teasing their big New Year's Eve show on their website for a few weeks tell folks to wait for the big announcement. Now we know that local favorites The Old Ceremony will be ringing in 2015 at the club on Wednesday, December 31, with Skylar Gudasz.

Tickets for the big show will go on sale at noon on Thursday, November 14, via Ticketfly for $15.

As we first told you about almost a year ago, The Avett Brothers will be hosting their own big New Year's Eve shindig at the PNC Arena in Raleigh. We'll bring you a comprehensive list of New Year's Eve happenings in the Triangle in the coming weeks.

The Old Ceremony & The Love Language team up for big Triangle gig

Two of the Triangle's most popular groups, The Old Ceremony and The Love Language are teaming up for a big show in the Triangle this spring at what's becoming one of the most popular venues in the area.

The bands will play the Haw River Ballroom in Saxapahaw on Saturday, April 12. Tickets are on sale now via Ticketfly for $10.

The Old Ceremony announces 'Fairytales' release show with Megafaun

As we've previously mentioned, The Old Ceremony will release their new album Fairytales and Other Forms of Suicide on August 21 via Yep Roc Records, and now they've announced a big hometown release show.

The band will play the Cat's Cradle in Carrboro on Friday, September 21. Megafaun will open with a special acoustic set. Tickets are on sale now via Etix for $10.

The Old Ceremony's new album Fairytales and Other Forms of Suicide will out in about a month, on August 21 to be exact, and now they band has started to share some new music with the public.

The Old Ceremony brings baroque rock to Duke Gardens

People packed into Duke Gardens on Wednesday evening for the second show of the 2012 Music in the Gardens series featuring Triangle favorites The Old Ceremony.

The band, led by charismatic frontman and songwriter Django Haskins, rocked through a set of songs from their catalog as well as some songs from their forthcoming Yep Roc debut Fairytales and Other Forms of Suicide, out on August 21.

The Old Ceremony is the next band to hit the Duke Gardens stage as part of the Music in the Gardens series next Wednesday, June 13.

The Old Ceremony signs to Yep Roc, new album out this summer

Durham pop band and Triangle mainstays The Old Ceremony, led by singer-songwriter Django Haskins, has inked a deal with with the Haw River-based Yep Roc Records to release their fifth album, Fairytales and Other Forms of Suicide, this summer.

The album will be out on August 21 and the band will hit the road to play a few shows this spring ahead of the release. They'll play the Cat's Cradle in Carrboro this Friday, April 27. John Dee Holeman will open. Tickets are $10 in advance via Etix.

They'll also play the Music in the Gardens series at Duke Gardens on Wednesday, June 13. Tickets will go on sale on Tuesday, May 15 HERE for $12.

Duke Performances unveils Music in the Gardens lineup

Duke Performances has announced the lineup for what is arguably the best summer concert series around and, as usual, it's end-to-end with stellar local acts.

The Music in the Gardens series kicks off Wednesday, June 6, with The Beast and Big Band and includes The Old Ceremony, Dex Romweber & The New Romans, Bombadil, Mandolin Orange, Midtown Dickens and Megafaun.

Tickets go on sale May 15 and are $12 in advance, $5 for Duke students and employees, and free for children 12 and under.

Avett Brothers, Love Language & many more playing Raleigh benefit gig

This is likely to be one of the most talked about local shows of the year. On Friday, March 23, there will be a three-venue benefit gig in Raleigh dubbed Racing the Cure to support Oliver Gant, a two-year-old battling cancer.

Many great local bands such as The Love Language, Annuals, The Old Ceremony and many more will play the event, but there is one band that stands out amongst the rest. NC superstars The Avett Brothers are set to play a 25-minute set at Kings Barcade during the event, which will surely be packed beyond belief. All bands are donating their time and talent to the event. Check out the full line-up and stage schedules below.

Hopscotch 2011 Day 3: The Old Ceremony at White Collar Crime

Late Saturday evening, local favorites The Old Ceremony packed their plethora of instruments into the small stage at White Collar Crime to close out the Hopscotch Music Festival at the venue.

The band took the opportunity to play some fantastic new songs for the attentive crowd. Violinist and keyboard player Gabriel Pelli was there playing with his fellow bandmates only days after his wife had given birth to twin boys.

Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival announces fall lineup, Bela Fleck, Sharon Jones & more

The biannual Shakori Hills Grassroots Music and Dance Festival in Pittsboro is a staple in the Triangle, always sporting an eclectic lineup of performers. The fall festival, held this year on October 6-9, will be no different.

Some of the big names this time around are Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Donna the Buffalo, Brett Dennen, The Duhks and more. There are also many great local bands playing, including The Old Ceremony, Hammer No More the Fingers, The Tender Fruit and more. Check out the full lineup, as it stands now, below.

Cat's Cradle undergoing major renovations, hosting free show

Construction crews have been busy at Carrboro's venerable music venue over the past week, and folks showing up for The Hold Steady's big show at the Cat's Cradle on Wednesday evening, August 31,  are going to be among the first to see some of the venue's major changes.

The first and most obvious change as you walk up to the building is the location of its door, which is moving down a sidewalk around the right side of the building. Patrons will now enter the main room from behind as opposed to entering right next to the stage (and ignoring the "no standing" area painted on the floor).

Megafaun, The Old Ceremony & more to play benefit in Durham

This weekend, a plethora of local talent will gather at Motorco Music Hall in Durham to raise money for arts programs at Central Park Charter School and arts programs they sponsor throughout the Durham community.

The event will happen on Friday, January 28 and will feature Megafaun, The Old Ceremony, Midtown Dickens, The Beast and Wigg Report. Megafaun has just been added as a special guest. Student bands will also perform early in the day. The event starts at 5 p.m.

Advance tickets are just $9.19 (that includes fees) or $10 at the door, so get out and support a good cause.

2011 WKNC Double Barrel Benefit night one lineup

With February quickly approaching, it's about time for WKNC's annual Double Barrel Benefit concerts in downtown Raleigh. After being at The Pour House for the past few years, the show is moving up Martin Street to Kings, the event's original venue, on February 4 and 5.

The Friday, February 4 line-up has just been announced and is a doozy featuring The Old Ceremony, Bright Young Things, Luego and Cassis Orange.

Tickets for the two nights will go on sale on Tuesday, January 11 via etix. The line-up for night two will also be announced tomorrow, January 11. We'll keep you posted with additional details as they're available, so stay tuned.

The 2010 Trekky Christmas at the Cradle line-up announced

The Trekky Records Christmas at the Cradle event has become a staple around the holidays in the Triangle and 2010 will mark the fifth annual event.

It will happen at Cat's Cradle (hence the name) on Thursday, December 16, and as always, the proceeds will go to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Tickets will be available soon via etix for just $8.

This year's line-up features The Trekky Yuletide Orchestra, Chris Stamey, The Old Ceremony, Filthybird, Phil Cook and His Feat, The Tender Fruit, Yardwork, Cassis Orange and In the Year of the Pig. The evening's host will be Mr. Billy Sugarfix.

It'll be a fun evening for a great cause, so check it out if you can.

All-star tribute to Big Star in Carrboro to feature members of R.E.M., The dB's & Big Star!!

There is going to be an amazing all-star tribute to Big Star at the Cat's Cradle in December with a line-up to knock your socks off. The two-night show, dubbed Stroke It, Noel, will feature a fully orchestrated performance of Big Star's album Third/Sister Lovers.

Chris Stamey is organizing the event and will be in the band, which will also feature none other than Big Star drummer Jody Stephens, R.E.M. bassist Mike Mills, Jeff Crawford (of a boatload of bands), Mitch Easter and The Tomahawks' Charles Cleaver as well as members of Lost in the Trees, Birds and Arrows and the North Carolina Symphony. There will also be guest vocalists including members of The Love Language, Megafaun and The Old Ceremony.

'Hear Here' compilation track list revealed

We mentioned the new Hear Here local compilation album being released by Terpsikhore on August 29 no too long ago, but now the full track list is available thanks to The Independent.

One notable absence from the release is Annuals. The band recorded the Johnny Cash song "Flesh and Blood" for the album, but due to licensing problems, the track had to be cut. It is not lost though. You can hear the song in the preview video below and Annuals will play the song at the Hear Here launch party at the Cat's Cradle on August 29.

I'm most excited to hear The Rosebuds song "Brad Cook is Not Your Man." With a title like that, how can it be bad? Check out the complete track list below.
