This week's Local Band Local Beer: Luego & Skylar Gudasz & the Ugly Girls

It's Thursday (November 10), so as always, there will be a another great free Local Band Local Beer show tonight at Tir Na Nog in Raleigh.

This week's show will feature a some pop rock from Luego and folk/alt-country from Skylar Gudasz and the Ugly Girls. Check out a smorgasbord of songs from Luego via the first widget below and the entire 7-song album, Two Headed Monster, from Skylar Gudasz and the Ugly Girls via the second widget.

As always, the music will start around 10 p.m. and the show is ages 21 and up.

2011 Carrboro Music Festival boasts over 180 bands on 25 stages

This Sunday, September 25, the annual Carrboro Music Festival will take over Carrboro, boasting a lineup of over 180 bands on 25 different stages around the town. Oh yeah, and it's free.

The venues reach from the Looking Glass Cafe to Jesse's Coffee and Bar. There will be tons of great bands across the stages including Luego, Fan Modine, Birds and Arrows, Brett Harris, Free Electric State, Lilac Shadows, The Tender Fruit, The Moaners, Billy Sugarfix's Carousel, Big Fat Gap, The Stars Explode, Le Weekend, Animal Alphabet and many, many more.

NHL All-Star game brings free concerts to downtown Raleigh

The NHL All-Star Game is being held at the RBC Center this weekend, and the celebration is spilling into downtown Raleigh with some free concerts and events dubbed NHL All-Star Wide Open.

First, at the Downtown Raleigh Amphitheater, 3 Doors Down (yeesh) is headlining a show on Friday, January 28 with Performing Assets and  Zamboni's. On Saturday, January 29, the amphitheater will host Chuck Wicks, Airiel Down, Zamboni's, Hank Sinatra, Big Daddy Love and Chris Hendricks. On Friday the music starts at 6 p.m. and on Saturday it starts at 11 a.m.

2011 WKNC Double Barrel Benefit night one lineup

With February quickly approaching, it's about time for WKNC's annual Double Barrel Benefit concerts in downtown Raleigh. After being at The Pour House for the past few years, the show is moving up Martin Street to Kings, the event's original venue, on February 4 and 5.

The Friday, February 4 line-up has just been announced and is a doozy featuring The Old Ceremony, Bright Young Things, Luego and Cassis Orange.

Tickets for the two nights will go on sale on Tuesday, January 11 via etix. The line-up for night two will also be announced tomorrow, January 11. We'll keep you posted with additional details as they're available, so stay tuned.

September line-up of Local Beer Local Band at Tir Na Nog

September is upon us and the highs are still in the mid-90s, but at least there's a new month of Local Beer Local Band shows at Tir Na Nog to tell you about.

Things get started on Thursday, September 2 with the last Local Beer show booked by series founder Chris Tamplin who will leaving to focus on his new Durham venue called Motorco Music Hall. His final show will feature Soft Company, The Houston Brothers and Darien (check out a review of Darien's EP here).

The following Thursday is the Hopscotch show and the rest of the month will feature Inflowential, Veelee, Luego and more. Check out the September schedule below.

May line-up for Local Beer Local Band at Tir Na Nog

For those who are don't know, WKNC and downtown Raleigh venue Tir Na Nog put on great free shows every Thursday night in a series called Local Beer Local Band.

Check out the line-up for May below, which will get started on Thursday, May 6 with a great show featuring Birds and Arrows and Schooner. The music gets started around 10 p.m. every Thursday.

Luego, The Beast & Dirty Little Heaters to play free show

It's about time for another free local show organized by the folks over at The Daily Tarheel's Diversions blog. As always, the show will be at Local 506 in Chapel Hill and this semester it will feature Luego, The Beast and The Dirty Little Heaters. It'll happen on Friday, April 9, so we're still a month away so mark your calendars.

Luego's latest album Taped-Together Stories is available to download via BandCamp via the name your own price system (though there's a $3 minimum). Check out some mp3s from the other bands below.
