After springing their first new new album in five years, Time Stamp, on the world just a few weeks ago, local favorites Annuals have now announced their first hometown show since the release.Annuals were once the biggest buzz band in the Triangle who were garnering national attention from blogs, magazines and even late night talk shows. But after the release of their last last album, 2008's Such Fun and the subsequent touring for that album, Annuals sort of disappeared for a while. They released the 2010 EP Sweet Sister and over the years would still play some shows here and there but activity was sporadic.
A new free concert series is coming to downtown Raleigh every other Thursday this summer. The series is called OC7 and will feature three bands performing in City Plaza starting on May 31 with Tres Chicas, Antique Firearms and Saints Apollo.
As you may remember from last year, the Hopscotch Music Festival extends far beyond the three-night festival itself and into the daytime. The speaker series was announced on Wednesday, and now we have the details of the many day parties going on September 8-11 (a day longer than the festival).
It's the final month of Local Band Local Beer shows at Tir Na Nog in 2010, and things are going to get starting with a band.
It was a mild and comfortable evening Wednesday night for the kick off of Duke Performances Music in Gardens series with Raleigh's own Annuals. A large crowd packed onto the lawn to hear the band rip through a 15-song set spanning the band's career.
With the winter we had this year, it's almost hard to believe that just six weeks from now we'll be spreading a blanket on the lawn at Duke Gardens to enjoy another summer full of great music. It should be no secret by now that the folks at Duke Performances excel at pulling together a fantastic roster of artists to fill the Gardens with their sounds, and this year is no different.
With their latest EP, Sweet Sister, Annuals has given us a sampler of varied pop soundscapes they can create. While all five tracks are markedly different, they all share the same tight production and smooth vibe.
We're still well over two months away from the start of the always awesome Summer in the Gardens series put on by Duke Performances, but a trio of bands have already been announced. Local bands Annuals and The Kingsbury Manx will grace the gardens on May 26 and July 14 respectively. The third performer is Oklahoma songstress Samantha Crain and the Midnight Shivers on June 29, who is signed to Ramseur Records out of Concord, NC. The full Summer in the Gardens schedule will be released on April 15.
Some bad luck hit Annuals just days before they are scheduled to headline the First Night New Year's celebration in downtown Raleigh. MyNC.com is reporting that the band's practice space in downtown Raleigh was burglarized over the holidays between the dates of December 15 and 29.
Raleigh indie superstars Annuals have big plans for New Year's Eve. The Independent has confirmed something we've been hearing for a little while. The band will ring in the new year as headliners at Raleigh's big downtown celebration First Night. Other performers at the event will include Crucial Fiya, Justin David, Barbara Bailey Hutchinson, Bob Margolin, Lenny Marcus Trio, Wayne Henderson and Jeff Little and El Gleno Grande.
It seems that Annuals has been fairly low-key this summer, but they're about to return with a new EP and tour. The EP is titled The Hi-Hat EP, and is tentatively scheduled to be released in early November. We'll bring you more details once they're available.
Recently, a bunch of great local bands got together to work on a compilation album of all new songs from each band. The result of their effort was the album Hear Here: The Triangle due out on August 29 via Terpsikhore Records. It feature music by The Rosebuds, Annuals, The Never, Lonnie Walker, The Old Ceremony and others. Check out a full list of bands below along with a teaser video for the album.
Annuals have been a bit low-key lately, but they've just released a new animated video for the song "Wake" from their latest album Such Fun. It's an odd little video that I'm not going to attempt to explain. Check it out below.
With all The Love Language buzz lately, we haven't forgotten about our other local buzz band Annuals. Two of the band's six members, Adam Baker and Kenny Florence, recently stopped by Paste Magazines studios to record a session. The set includes "Down the Mountain," "Confessor" and "Hardwood Floor" from their latest album Such Fun. Watch the session here.NC State is throwing a big Earth Week concert on April 24 at Lee Field. The show also happens to fall on the last day of classes for the spring semester. Local superstars Annuals will headline with Lonnie Walker and Cougar Magnum opening the show. The concert is free and will start at 6 pm.
Annuals is giving away some extra culture along their current tour. They are giving away museum passes for each city along with tickets to their show. They held a similar giveaway when they released the Wet Zoo EP last year.
A number of bands Triangle bands are currently among the over 1,000 bands announced to play the annual South By Southwest Music Conference in Austin, TX in March.
