This is likely to be one of the most talked about local shows of the year. On Friday, March 23, there will be a three-venue benefit gig in Raleigh dubbed Racing the Cure to support Oliver Gant, a two-year-old battling cancer.
Many great local bands such as The Love Language, Annuals, The Old Ceremony and many more will play the event, but there is one band that stands out amongst the rest. NC superstars The Avett Brothers are set to play a 25-minute set at Kings Barcade during the event, which will surely be packed beyond belief. All bands are donating their time and talent to the event. Check out the full line-up and stage schedules below.
Tickets will go on sale at noon today, February 8, via Etix for $25 plus a $1 credit card processing fee. Etix has waived all convenience charges on behalf of the event.
A silent auction will also be held at the benefit, with items including band merchandise and goods, services and custom-made meals from local shops and restaurants.
Gant is the son of New Raleigh editor Jedidiah Gant. He was diagnosed with stage three sacrococcygeal teratoma early last year and has since undergone two surgeries and numerous rounds of chemotherapy. The concert will not only help offset the cost of his treatment, but will also support some of the organizations that have supported the Gant family.
