Carolina Theatre rolls out 2011-12 season, Buckingham, Thile, Hornsby & more

Durham's Carolina Theatre has rolled out its 2011-12 Star Series, and it's one of their most musically ambitious seasons in recent memory.

The theater closes for major renovations on June 13, which will include new carpeting, new windows and doors and the opening of the six boxes that flank each side of the stage.

The theater will reopen with a bang in October. The first concert of the new season is none other than Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac on Saturday, October 1.

Also this season:
  • Mandolin virtuoso and singer-songwriter Chris Thile (of Punch Brothers and Nickel Creek) will perform a solo set on Sunday, November 13.
  • R&B star Aaron Neville will celebrate Christmas at the theater on Tuesday, November 29.
  • 1990s country star Travis Tritt will play a solo acoustic set on Saturday, January 21.
  • Pianist and singer Bruce Hornsby will bring his electric style for a solo set on Valentine's Day, Tuesday, February 14.
  • The former lead singer of the band Yes, Jon Anderson, will perform a special solo set on Thursday, March 1.
There are many other interesting acts lined up including Sweet Honey in the Rock, an intriguing evening with actress Carrie Fisher, comedians Paula Poundstone and Mike Birbiglia and more. Check out the full schedule below.

Tickets for all of the shows will go on sale on Friday, June 10 at 10 a.m. at the Carolina Theatre box office, by phone and via Ticketmaster.

I'm amused at the thought of a "caustic set" from Travis Tritt.
