XX Merge Night 2 at Cat's Cradle: Superchunk!

Last, but certainly not least, the one and only Superchunk closed out night two of XX Merge. The band triumphantly took to the stage to roaring applause and cheers and launched into "Cool" from the band's 1991 7" (MRG014).

The set shook out like a greatest hits collection, hitting "Detroit Has a Skyline," "Cast Iron," "The First Part" and others. Two recent songs, "Learned To Surf" and "Crossed Wires" made their way into the set and fit right in among the old classics.

The band played with the intensity of a flagship band playing their 20th anniversary celebration. Mac bounded around the stage, as did Jim Wilbur. Lara shared some of her signature pogoing and Jon Wurster didn't miss a beat.

They left the stage after "The First Part," reappearing only a few seconds later. They brought the 3Ds on stage to play a cover of The Clean's "Point That Thing Somewhere Else." Superchunk closed the night with "Slack Motherfucker" and "Precision Auto," rounding out an phenomenal set. If you were to only see one Superchunk show in you life, this was the one you should've seen.

Check out the set list and photos below. Stay tuned tonight for Twittering from XX Merge night three and check back here for full coverage of the evening's festivities tomorrow.

the Clean cover they played with the 3Ds was "point that thing somewhere else" originally from the classic 1981 "Boodle, Boodle, Boodle" ep and now available on the Clean Anthology from Merge. and yes, they rocked it!
