The Merge news just doesn't stop. What's the next big thing marking the 20th anniversary of Merge Records? A book. It is titled Our Noise: The Story of Merge Records, the Little Label That Got Big and Stayed Small.
The book was written by John Cook, a reporter for Gawker Media and has worked for Radar magazine and the Chicago Tribune with Mac McCaughan and Laura Ballance. It will feature first-hand accounts of Merge Records history from Mac and Lara as well as the bands and other people close to label. It will also feature hundreds of photos of Merge bands, album art, concert posters and other things.
The cover of the book which you can see on the right is a live photo of Superchunk featuring Lara Ballance's infamous pogoing. I think, though I'm not certain, that the photo on the cover is from the Superchunk show with Arcade Fire last year in Carrboro.
The book is set to be published on September 15 by Algonquin Books. It will be 320 pages long. For more info, check out the book page on Algonquin's website. You can pre-order it now here from Amazon.
