Megafaun play new songs at Duke Gardens

The rain was merciful Wednesday night and steered clear of the Duke Gardens where Megafaun played a great show.

The band got things going with the somber tune "Drains" before launching into the foot-stompin' "Beloved Binge." The trio continued through the rest of their set that included a bunch of songs from their upcoming release Gather, Form & Fly. Some standout new tunes from the set were "Guns," "Kaufman's Ballad," "The Fade" (which you can download below) and "The Longest Day." The latter featured fantastic backing vocals by Christy Smith of The Tender Fruit.

The music wasn't the only thing showcased at Duke Gardens. The set included some interesting banter including a salute—quite literally—to birthdays in honor of Kelly Crisp of The Rosebuds as well as some other friends and fans in the crowd.

There was also some random audience polling throughout the night including the questions "Who in the crowd has ever lost an election?" and "Who in the audience has had a squirrel for a pet?" It was rather odd, but a surprising number of people answered yes to both questions and others.

Megafaun's new album Gather, Form & Fly will be released on July 21 on Hometapes. The band will hit the road for a lengthy tour with Bowerbirds in July. Check out those dates here.

I wasn't there but I think you're referring to Christy Smith of the Tender Fruit?
Sounds like a great show, can't wait for the album.
