The Rosebuds, Megafaun and The Love Language play to packed Cradle

The Rosebuds played to a sold out plus crowd Saturday night at the Cat's Cradle and brought local powerhouses Megafaun and The Love Language along for the fun.

The Love Language kicked off a night with a killer set of indie pop tunes that won the crowd over. The seven piece group rolled through their set with little problem even though frontman Stuart McLamb said he was feeling a little under the weather. These guys are by far one of the best bands in the Triangle right now. The band's self-titled debut album is due out February 10 via Bladen County Records. They also recently recorded a session for Daytrotter which we'll let you know about once it's posted. I wouldn't be surprised to see these guys in the N&O's Great 8 this year.

Megafaun took the stage next and got their set started with a bang before delving into some of their more experimental tunes. The crowd, myself included, started to lose interest towards the end of the set. The packed crowd was a bit too restless for the mellower, more experimental songs. The guys are a hell of a lot of fun to watch though.

The Rosebuds triumphantly took the stage next and opened with "Bluebird." Megafaun joined the band on stage for the song and Brad Cook played bass with the band the whole night. The set list spanned the band's four full-length albums but relied heavily on their latest album Life Like.

After the main set, the band came back for a four song encore, one song from each album. It kicked off with members of Megafaun, The Love Language and someone's pet pug joining them on stage for "Nice Fox" and closed with "Wildcat" from Birds Make Good Neighbors.

The night saw The Rosebuds at the top of their game playing to a sold-out crowd that Kelly even noted, didn't even have room to dance. The show was a great welcome home for the band who closed out their tour at the Cradle.
