Chatham County Line kicks off WUNC concert series

Old, young, and in between took advantage of the beautiful weather at Durham's American Tobacco Campus Friday night to watch Raleigh quartet Chatham County Line. The band performed for the first installment of WUNC's Back Porch Music on the Lawn series for this summer.

The show's location, start time, and nonexistent price tag were all pretty significant draws. Parents could enjoy an evening out and not have to worry about hiring a babysitter or keeping the kids out late. CCL fans completely packed the lawn, yet no one ever seemed to mind. It was more like a halcyon family reunion, a rare event where all attendees behave and get along with each other.

For the entire show, it was obvious that each member was enjoying himself just as much as everyone else in the crowd. Their most recent release, IV, formed the backbone of the show, with a couple of from their highly anticipated upcoming release Wildwood. Wilson dedicated one of CCL's earlier songs, "Song of the Whippoorwill" to the young fan who had requested it. Not a single note sounded sour, a fact that is no doubt the product of four highly talented musicians who constantly work to perfect their craft.

The group finished their two hour set with a great cover of The Traveling Wilburys' "Handle With Care." Such a great ending was merely the topper on an already fantastic show.

The entire schedule for the Back Porch summer concert series is posted on the WUNC website. Chatham County Line's new record, Wildwood, is set to be released on July 13 via YepRoc records, and you can help the band celebrate the release at Cat's Cradle on July 10.
