Album review: Razorlight - Slipaway Fires

On Razorlight's third album Slipaway Fires, the band once again delivers an album that doesn't quite fire on all cylinders. About half of the tracks are pretty good to okay, but the rest just don't click.

The band are at their best when they're grooving like on the tracks "Tabloid Lover" and "Blood For Wild Blood." Lead singer Johnny Bornell tries to carry many of the slower, ballad-esque songs like "Go Thompson" and "The House but he just can't pull it off. The rest of the album seems like a band striving to write anthematic songs that will excite throngs of people at the Glastonbury Festival, but just can't quite figure it out.

Slipaway Fires will be released in the US on Tuesday, March 10 via Mercury Records.
