Coldplay announce US dates, return to Raleigh

British superstars and the band behind one of 2008's best-selling albums Viva La Vida have just announced new US dates including a show in Raleigh. The band I refer to is Coldplay, duh, and they'll return to the Walnut Creek Amphitheatre (Time Warner Cable Music Pavilion at Walnut Creek) on August 6. Tickets for the show go on-sale next Friday, February 13 at 10 AM here.

The band will also play the Verizon Amphitheatre in Charlotte the next night, August 7. Those tickets will go on-sale the same day at the same time here. There's no word yet on ticket prices.

Coldplay last played in Raleigh on their X&Y tour in 2005 to a sold-out crowd. The band are up for seven Grammys Sunday night and will perform on the show along with Radiohead, Paul McCartney and others. More on our Grammy coverage later today.
