iTunes single of the week: The Republic Tigers "Buildings & Mountains"

This week's free single comes from Kansas City, Missouri band The Republic Tigers.

The track is "Buildings & Mountains" which sonically sounds very much like Travis. The song is also reminiscent of the mellow, somber sounds of Matt Pond PA. The melody, specifically the chorus melody is a little more typical pop. The vocals are heavily layered. It sounds like they pulled the Billy Corgan technique of recording a higher vocal and doubling that vocal an octave or so lower and mixing the two, three, or eight. The layered vocals are present throughout the track.

While the track is sonically similar to bands that I like, this song really doesn't do much for me. I won't give this one a yay or nay because it's not bad, but it's just not outstanding.
