I've been meaning to see Violet Vector and the Lovely Lovelies live for a while, and now that I have I'm disappointed that it took this long. The three gals and two guys put on an energetic show last night in downtown Raleigh during the Art on the Edge festival.
The band played their 60s pop-inspired, psychedelia-laced tunes for a small crowd shortly after the sun set. The set included songs from their aptly titled debut release EP I, as well as some newer songs. One awesome inclusion in the set was a great cover of the Cheap Trick song "Southern Girls."
The band said that they plan to hit the studio in the fall to record some new tracks which will include some of the new songs that they're playing live.
EP I is a really good recording, but the songs really pop live. To hear the groovy beats and retro keyboard sounds combined with the band's retro aesthetic makes for a great time.
Violet Vector and the Lovely Lovelies have numerous shows coming up in the Triangle which I'll list below. Be sure to check them out soon. You won't regret it.
