New music from Let's Wrestle - "Dear John"

Continuing what has to be Merge Records busiest year, the trio of U.K. lads known as Let's Wrestle are gearing up to release their sophomore album. Their debut, In the Court of the Wrestling Let's, was just released stateside by Merge in March 2010, though it had been out in the U.K. since 2009.

The new album's title is less of a tongue twister, known simply as Nursing Home. The album is said to be heavier than their debut, which could be in part since it was recorded with famed indie engineer Steve Albini. Download the song "Dear John" from the album below, which is certainly darker.

Elf Power & Let's Wrestle team up for Chapel Hill show

Athens, GA band Elf Power and British rockers Let's Wrestle will each be touring the U.S. individually this fall, but will play one show together right here in the Triangle.

The bands will play the Nightlight in Chapel Hill on Wednesday, Sep. 15. Tickets for the show are $10 and are available now via etix. There will be a screening of the movie Major Organ and the Adding Machine before the music starts.

Elf Power's will release a new eponymous album the day prior to the show, on Sep 14 via Orange Twin Records. Let's Wrestle is supporting their debut album, In the Court of Wrestling Let's, released in March via Merge Records. Download songs from each album below.

Record Store Day releases: Love Language, Let's Wrestle, Mountain Goats, Telekinesis, more

Record Store Day is drawing closer, and like previous years, the exclusive releases for independent record stores have ramped up. It will all roll out on Saturday, April 17 and you'll be able to find all sorts of exclusive goodies at Schoolkids Records and Edward McKay Used Books and MOre in Raleigh, Offbeat Music in Durham and CD Alley in Chapel Hill.

This year's lists includes a split 7" vinyl from Merge Records featuring new songs, "I'm So Lazy" from U.K. band Let's Wrestle and "Brittany's Back" from the Triangle's own The Love Language. "Brittany's Back" has made regular appearances in Love Language sets for the past year or so.

Album Review: Let's Wrestle - In the Court of the Wrestling Let's

Let's Wrestle's debut In the Court of the Wrestling Let's is an honest introduction to a band that relies on energy, humor and decent melody to make its music.

At its best this album sounds like the perfect soundtrack to a summer afternoon of imaginary WWE in the backyard. Songs like “We are the Men You'll Grow to Love Soon” and “Song for Old People” are carefree, driving and triumphant and conjure up images of some goofy chaps running about and creating mischief. It obvious this is the sound with which Let’s Wrestle is most comfortable.

Let's Wrestle announces US dates, play Carrboro

We first told you about UK band Let's Wrestle signing to Durham's Merge Records less than a month ago and now they've announced US dates in April with Quasi. The tour will bring them to the Cat's Cradle on Monday, April 26. Tickets for the show are on sale now via etix.com for $10.

Merge Records signs UK band Let's Wrestle

I'm definitely sounding like a broken record now, much Merge Records 2010 just got another album and band bigger. The label has just announced that they've signed the band Let's Wrestle from the United Kingdom.

Merge will release the band's debut album titled In the Court of the Wrestling Let's on March 23. The album was released in June 2009 in the UK. Download the song “We are the Men You’ll Grow to Love Soon” from the album below. The song is three minutes of punchy, garage pop goodness.
