Friday night brought the fantastic Daily Tar Heel Diversions show to Local 506 and The Love Language and The Huguenots did not disappoint (unfortunately, I missed Americans in France).
The Huguenots played for a nice crowd and blistered through a great set of 60s and 70s tinged pop tunes. The band cranked the amps to stadium volume, swapped instruments on stage and grooved like it was their last show ever. The oh-so-catchy tune "Julia" stood out in set as well as the funky tune "She'll Take You Down." This is a band you need to see live to truly understand them. The demos on their MySpace page don't do them justice.
As The Love Language were about to take the stage, the kids piled in to get a good vantage point of the Triangle's band on the verge. The band launched into their increasingly well known new song "Blue Angel" right out the gate. The crowd ate it up and those up front gave as much or more energy back to group. Songs from the band's self-titled debut like "Sparxx," "Providence" and "Lalita" really got the club jumping. It's amazing that a lot of the crowd already knew every word to every song from the album. These guys and girls are truly the band to watch.
If you missed this show you can check The Love Language out at The Pour House in Raleigh on May 9. The Huguenots will be at Broad Street in Durham on May 21.
