Video: Chris Cornell & The Avett Brothers cover Pearl Jam on Fallon

The Late Night with Jimmy Fallon show just can't seem to get enough of The Avett Brothers lately. The band made another appearance on the show Monday night with Chris Cornell, this time covering Pearl Jam as part of Fallon's week long Pearl Jam celebration.

Scott and Seth accompanied Cornell on banjo and guitar for a stripped down performance of the Pearl Jam b-side "Footsteps," originally released with the "Jeremy" single. Check it out below.

Video: The Avett Brothers cover metal songs, play "Vanity" w/ Chris Cornell on Jimmy Fallon

After playing "Another Is Waiting" on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last week, The Avett Brothers returned to the show last night to debut another new song with a little help from Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell.

Cornell joined the band for a performance of "Vanity" from the Avetts' forthcoming album Magpie and the Dandelion, due out on October 15. His distinct, emotion-filled voice fit right in with the band really well. Check out the performance below.

Earlier in the show, the band took part in a sketch called The Avett Brothers Sing Heavy Metal. The premise is that the band have released an album of metal songs for people who like the "sinister and aggressive" lyrical themes of metal but prefer sunnier music. During the sketch they cover "Run to the Hills" by Iron Maiden, "Iron Man" by Black Sabbath and "One" by Metallica. Check it out below.

Video: Laura Ballace joins Superchunk onstage on Jimmy Fallon

Local indie icons Superchunk returned to Rockefeller Center on Friday to promote their new album I Hate Music on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. The band was joined by Laura Ballance on bass live for the first time since she had to step down from touring due to hearing problem.

The band played the song "Void" on the show which featured current touring bassist Jason Narducy on third guitar and backing vocals. The band also played the classic "Driveway to Driveway" as a web exclusive. Check out both performances below.

Video: The Avett Brothers play "Another Is Waiting" on Jimmy Fallon

On Tuesday night, The Avett Brothers headed back to Rockefeller Center in New York for a performance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon promoting their new album Magpie and the Dandelion, due out on October 15.

The band played the fantastic new song "Another is Waiting" and you can check out that performance below. Fallon also noted after the performance that the band will be back on the show on Monday, September 30, to play another new song and they will be joined by Chris Cornell of Soundgarden (that should be interesting).

Video: The Avett Brothers play "Down With the Shine" on Fallon

The Avett Brothers are out on tour in support of their new album, The Carpenter, and paid a visit to Late Night with Jimmy Fallon yesterday while in New York.

The band played "Down With the Shine" from their new album. The Carpenter recently debuted at no. 4 on the Billboard Top 200 — the band's highest chart position to date.

While the band's current tour schedule will keep them busy through the end of October, they currently have no North Carolina dates scheduled.

Video: Archers of Loaf perform "Wrong" & "Harnessed in Slums" on 'Late Night'

Archers of Loaf hit late night television on Friday night, playing a couple of classic tunes for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

The band sounded phenomenal as they ripped through "Wrong" from Icky Mettle (which is being re-released by Merge Records on August 2). They stuck around for a bonus performance of "Harnessed in Slums." Check them both out below.

Video: Bon Iver rocks late night television with new songs

The new expanded Bon Iver lineup, featuring Justin Vernon backed by an eight-piece band, rocked late night television on this week, promoting their brand new album Bon Iver, Bon Iver.

On Monday night, the band played The Colbert Report. Vernon sat down for a quick chat with Stephen Colbert, then played a stunning version of "Calgary." The band stuck around for a bonus performance of the classic "Skinny Love." Check out both performances below.

Then on Tuesday, the band hit Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and performed "Holocene." Check out that performance below too.

Video: Justin Vernon & Phil Cook cover Bonnie Raitt on Jimmy Fallon

As part of the promotion of Bon Iver's upcoming album Bon Iver, Bon Iver, due out on June 21, Justin Vernon appeared on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon on Monday night.

In a rare twist, Vernon actually sat down and did an interview with Fallon, which is rare for musicians unless they're a huge rock star. The interview was followed by a performance of Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me," with a bit of "Nick of Time" and Donny Hathaway's "A Song For You" thrown in. Phil Cook of Megafaun backed Vernon on the piano. It's a fantastic performance, which you can watch below.

Video: Superchunk performs "Digging For Something" & "Precision Auto" on 'Late Night'

Superchunk took the television last night for the first time in 16 years to promote their new album Majesty Shredding. Joined by John Darnielle, the band rocked their catchy single "Digging For Something" and stuck around for a raucous bonus web performance of the classic tune "Precision Auto." Videos: Spoon on Conan, Mountain Goats on Fallon

Last night was a good night for music on the late night shows. Conan O'Brien had Spoon playing the song "Writing in Reverse" from their just released album Transference and Jimmy Fallon had The Mountain Goats playing "Genesis 3:23" from their latest album The Life of the World To Come.

Both performances were pretty awesome and on an somewhat unrelated note, everyone should watch Conan's potentially final nights on the Tonight Show the rest of this week. He's been funnier than he's been in a long time.

Jon Wurster performs with Aimee Mann on 'Late Night'

Last night's musical performance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon combined one of my favorite songwriters with an excellent local musician. Aimee Mann performed the song "Freeway" from her album @#%&! Smilers with Superchunk drummer Jon Wurster keeping the beat. Watch the performance below for a limited time thanks to Hulu.
