Surfer Blood, Wye Oak, Free Energy, Hooray For Earth & more to play free Raleigh festival

The new Triangle media company deja Mi is sponsoring a free two-day mini-festival in at six venues in downtown Raleigh on July 22 and 23. It's called deja Fest and is being organized in cooperation with the Hopscotch Music Festival. It's really like a mini-Hopscotch.

The bands featured over the two nights include Hooray For Earth, Surfer Blood, Wye Oak, Active Child, Free Energy and many more, including a bunch of local bands.

The venues will be Tir Na Nog, The Pour House, Slim’s, Kings Barcade and Neptunes Parlour on Friday and then outside and inside Lincoln Theatre on Saturday. Check out the full schedule below.

Cymbals Eat Guitars announce tour with Hooray For Earth, coming to Chapel Hill

New York rockers Cymbals Eat Guitars are hitting the road this fall in support of their new album Lenses Aliens, due out on September 14. Hooray For Earth will be along for the ride as the opening act.

The bands will come to Local 506 in Chapel Hill on Monday, September 26. Tickets are on sale now via etix for $10.

A Place To Bury Strangers announces March dates, coming to Durham

A Place To Bury Strangers, whom some call the loudest band in New York, are hitting the road in March on a U.S. tour, still supporting their 2009 album Exploding Head.

The tour will bring them to Motorco Music Hall in Durham on Friday, March 11. Hooray For Earth and Free Electric State will open the show. Tickets are on sale now HERE for $11.24 (that includes fees).

Album Review: Hooray for Earth - Momo EP

Up until this point, Hooray for Earth has been a mediocre band. But on their latest record, the Momo EP, Hooray for Earth sound fresh and refocused. Momo may be the reset the band needs.

The opening tracks are drenched in reverb and melody and should catch the listeners ear. “Surrounded by Your Friends” sets the EP up with a contented tone and relaxed feel and “Comfortable, Comparable” brings the band’s new wave influences to the forefront.

“Get Home,” which sounds like a Magnetic Fields b-side, is where this EP starts to drop off. It isn’t a terrible song, but it does feel like cheap imitation. “Scaling” is a slow, psychedelic and freaky. It works to cleanse the ear and prepare the listener for the more aggressive “Form,” but both tracks are a bit overwrought.

Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Surfer Blood & Hooray For Earth announce dates

An excellent trio of up-and-coming bands, The Pains of the Being Pure at Heart, Surfer Blood and Hooray For Earth are teaming up for a brief run of shows together in June. The tour will bring the fuzzed out trio of bands to the Cat's Cradle on Tuesday, June 15. Tickets for the show go on sale on Friday, April 9 via etix for $12.

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart will release the new "Say No To Love" 7" on June 8. Surfer Blood released their excellent debut album Astro Coast in January. Hooray For Earth will release the MOMO EP on June 1. Download the opening track from the EP "Surrounded By Your Friends" below.
