Trekky Records Collective to play Carrboro in December

In lieu of the annual Trekky Records Christmas at the Cradle event at the Cat's Cradle, this year a collective of Trekky Records artists and friends will gather at the opposite end of the shopping center at the ArtsCenter.

The collective will feature members of Bowerbirds, Butterflies, Embarrassing Fruits, Hammer No More the Fingers, Lost in the Trees, Megafaun, Midtown Dickens, Mount Moriah, Vibrant Green and some other special guests.

The show will be on Thursday, December 15. Tickets are just $6 in advance via Etix.

Summer storms may have forced Trekky Records' annual TRKfest from its usual venue, Piedmont Biofuels in Pittsboro, to the Haw River Ballroom in Saxapahaw, but the new location gave a beautiful backdrop for the event and introduced many to a spectacular venue.

Check out some photos below of sets from Brice Randall Bickford, Lonnie Walker and Butterflies as well as an outdoor, punk rock jam led by Ari Picker of Lost in the Trees, which also featured his former The Never bandmate Noah Smith.

TRKfest announces 2011 lineup, Bowerbirds, Mount Moriah & more

The annual music festival TRKfest, put on by local label Trekky Records, is set to return for it's fourth year on Saturday, August 13. It will be down at Piedmont Biofuels it Pittsboro and as always, feature a slew of local bands.

The initial lineup features Bowerbirds, Mount Moriah, Midtown Dickens, Hammer No More the Fingers, Embarrassing Fruits, Ryan Gustafson, Yardwork, Brice Randall Bickford, Butterflies and Vibrant Green. More bands are still to be announced, and we'll keep you posted as they're added.

New music video from Embarrassing Fruits - "Vanishing Frontier"

Chapel Hill band Embarrassing Fruits released their new album Frontier Justice in September and have now released a music video from the record.

The video is for the song "Vanishing Frontier" and features footage of three ghouls skating their way through suburbs and causing trouble. There is live footage of the band edited in as well.

While the band is a trio, the three ghouls featured are not the band. They are Ross Connolly and TJ Maiani of Butterflies and Thomas Costello of Mount Weather. Trekky co-founder Will Hackney filmed and edited the video. Watch it below where you will also find a download of the song.

November line-up of Local Beer Local Band at Tir Na Nog

November is now upon us, which means there's another new bunch of free Local Beer Local Band shows each Thursday night at Tir Na Nog in Raleigh.

Things will kick off on November 4 with a listening party for The Beast and Nnenna Freelon's new album Freedom Suite as well as performances by The Beast, King Mez, Carlitta Durand, Brody & Choch and The Apple Juice Kid.

On November 11 there will be a New Raleigh showcase featuring Bright Young Things, Gray Young and Heads On Sticks. November 18 will feature Embarrassing Fruits, Kid Future and Americans In France.

There will be no show on November 25 since it's Thanksgiving.

New music from Embarrassing Fruits - "Long Distance Breakup Summer"

Chapel Hill band Embarrassing Fruits have just announced the details of their new album, Frontier Justice. The album will be released via Trekky Records on Sept. 21. in the label's signature packaging which includes a vinyl, CD and MP3 download all together.

The album will feature 14 tracks, with almost half written by bassist Lee Shaw instead of frontman Joe Norkus, who is said to add elements of his love of aggressive pop to the band's sound.

June line-up of Local Beer Local Band at Tir Na Nog

With June rolling in, it's time to bring you this month's line-up for WKNC's Local Beer Local Bands at Tir Na Nog. For those who don't know, the free concerts happens every Thursday night at Tir Na Nog in downtown Raleigh.

The Tomahawks, Monologue Bombs and Filthy Bird will kick off the month on June 3. The Tomahawks have been busy working on a full-length album which was being mixed at Chris Stamey's studio Modern Recording. Their EP Like a Horse On a Beach is available now for free here.

TRKfest 2010 announced with Megafaun, Hammer No More the Fingers and more

With summer on it's way, it's about time for the annual TRKfest, put on by the folks at Trekky Records. This is the event's third year and it is at the usual location, Piedmont Biofuels in Pittsboro. It will take place on Saturday, June 26 and if it happens to rain on that date, the event will be on Sunday, June 27.

This year's line-up includes Megafaun, Hammer No More the Fingers, Mount Moriah and more. Check out the current line-up below, though there will be more performers added later.

Embarrassing Fruits' Joe Norkus offers up free EP

Embarrassing Fruits frontman Joe Norkus has offered up a new EP titled Hollerin' Haints for the low, low price of nothing. It is a Halloween EP released the day before the holiday that's just making the rounds this week. It features six original tracks as well as a track called "Hollerin' Haints (scare track)" that is supposed to be played in a haunted house. I guess we'll have to wait and use it next year.

Trekky Records Collective host stripped down show in Carrboro

Scrappy do-it-yourselfers Trekky Records are gearing up to host a stripped down, "evening with" show featuring members of some of their excellent bands. The event will happen this Sunday, September 27 at Milltown in Carrboro.

The show will start at 7 p.m. an will be free. The performances will feature members of Lost in the Trees, The Never, Embarrassing Fruits, Butterflies and Vibrant Green. They have promised an evening featuring new songs as well as some embarrassing covers from the members old high school bands. This sounds like a fun way to spend a Sunday evening.

Trekky announces the TRKfest set times

Trekky Records big TRKfest show is going down this Saturday, June 13 in Pittsboro at Piedmont Biofuels. We brought you the initial line-up last month, but now the set times have been announced.

The Never will kick off the day at 2pm at the last band, Megafaun will go on at 11pm. Check out the entire schedule below and enjoy the show. Check out our previous post for more information on the event.

Trekky gearing up for second annual TRKfest in June

Local record label and music collective Trekky Records is gearing up for their second annual TRKfest. The big show will happen on June 13 at Piedmont Biofuels in Pittsboro, NC. This year's festival will feature Trekky favorites such like Lost in the Trees, The Never and Embarassing Fruits as well as Trekky friends Ivan Howard (of The Rosebuds), Megafaun, Hammer No More the Fingers and others. Check out the full list of bands performing below as well as a list of other fun activities that will be going on.

There are no tickets for the event. There will be a suggested donation of $10. Piedmont Biofuels is at 220 Lorax Lane in Pittsboro.
