Electric Owls releasing 'Cullowhee Songs' EP in November

Electric Owls, the project of singer-songwriter Andy Herod (formerly of The Comas), is preparing to release his first new music since his debut album Ain't Too Bright released last year.

The four-song EP, titled Cullowhee Songs, was recorded at Herod's home studio in Asheville and mixed at Echo Mountain Studios. It will be released digitally on Nov. 9 and will be available on 7-inch vinyl only at shows and via the band's website.

Right now, the band's only scheduled show is an EP release party in Asheville at the Grey Eagle on Saturday, Oct. 23. We'll keep you posted if they come back to the Triangle.

Electric Owls to play Chapel Hill with Wembley, North Elementary

Electric Owls, songwriter Andy Herod's project after The Comas, released his/their debut album, Ain't Too Bright in 2009 via Vagrant Records. He is calling Asheville home these days but is planning a return to the Triangle.

Electric Owls will headline a three-band bill at Local 506 on Saturday, Aug. 21 which will also feature local bands North Elementary and Wembley. Tickets info for the show is not available yet, but we'll keep you posted.

If you haven't heard the Owls yet, check out the songs "Magic Show" and "Cannibal Superstar" from Ain't Too Bright below. Herod has a knack for great melodies and lush arrangements which is front and center on the album.

Electric Owls debut due out in May

The debut album from Electric Owls which features singer/songwriter Andy Herod and Jason Caperton (of The Comas) along with Matt Gentling (of Band of Horses, Archers of Loaf) and Cully Symington (of Gutter Twins) is due out on May 5 via Vagrant Records. The album is titled Ain't Too Bright and features ten tracks recorded at Echo Mountain studios in Asheville.

The band released an EP titled Magic Show in November which featured three tracks that ended up on Ain't Too Bright. Check out the track list for the album below.

Electric Owls only have one US show scheduled right now in Asheville at Rocket Club on March 15. The band will spend a good portion of April and May on tour in Europe.
