Lost in the Trees announce indefinite touring hiatus, farewell show

Lost in the Trees have been staples of the Triangle music scene for the last seven years but following one more big Triangle show in December the band is going on an indefinite hiatus. Songwriter and frontman Ari Picker posted on Facebook that he plans to continue writing and releasing music but wants to "move away from touring for the time being."

The band will play one final show at the Haw River Ballroom in Saxaphaw on Friday, December 12. They plan to play songs from all of their albums and will have special guests there to play with them. Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 12, via Ticketfly for $15.

Check out photos and a write-up my first time seeing Lost in the Trees at Schoolkids Records in Raleigh in 2008 HERE. The band's latest album Past Life was released earlier this year.

Lost in the Trees releasing new album in February, share video for "Rites"

Triangle orchestral folk rock band Lost in the Trees are returning with their third full-length album in early 2014 titled Past Life. The album will be released by ANTI- Records on February 18 and will feature a much more stripped back sound than the big orchestration that fans have come to expect from the band.

The band have released a sparse yet very Lost in the Trees music video for the album's fifth track, "Rites," which you can watch below, where you'll also find the complete track list for Past Life.

Lost in the Trees released the song "Lady in White," which will be included on the new album, a few months back. Check out that song HERE.

As part of the Carolina Union Activities Board's new PlusOne series (called that because every ticket purchased includes a second ticket for free), Ari Picker and Emma Nadeau of Lost in the Trees will play a special duo show in next month on campus.

The pair will play the Historic Playmakers Theatre on Monday, October 14. Tickets are on sale now HERE for $14 for the public and just $5 for UNC students.

The band just released a new song last week titled "Lady in White," which is quite a departure from the band's more heavily orchestral work from their previous releases. Check it out below.

TRKfest 2012 lineup announced, Des Ark, Hammer & more

It wouldn't be summer in the Triangle without Trekky Records' big annual party, TRKfest. Weather permitting, this year's festival will return to Piedmont Biofuels in Pittsboro on Saturday, July 21 (last year's event was moved to the Haw River Ballroom due to rain).

This year's lineup features a few performances you won't find anywhere else. First is Lost Skulls, a Misfits cover band featuring Ari Picker of Lost in the Trees, Stu McLamb of The Love Language, Nathan Toben of The Toddlers and TJ Maiani of Gross Ghost. They're supposed to be performing in Danzig style, so that will be something to see.

Local favorites Lost in the Trees are out wrapping up their first U.S. tour in support of their new album A Church That Fits Our Needs, which will end in the Triangle, and they've also just released a new music video from the album.

The video is for the hauntingly beautiful song "Golden Eyelids" and in typical Lost in the Trees style, it is visually stunning. It features the band under water, including Ari Picker singing the lyrics under water. Check it out below.

The band will wrap their current tour on Friday, April 20, at the Cat's Cradle in Carrboro. Tickets are available via Etix for $15.

Album Review: Lost In The Trees - A Church That Fits Our Needs

On the final track of Lost In The Trees' latest masterpiece, A Church The Fits Our Needs, Ari Picker sings, "There are things songs can’t say." This may be true, but after listening to the new album, it’s hard to believe a songwriter as talented as Picker would ever have trouble making his compositions speak.

A Church That Fits Our Needs is Picker’s tribute to his mother, an artist who took her life in 2009 not long after her son’s wedding. The music is expectedly sombre overall, but it ranges from tortured to sentimental.

Lost in the Trees playing not so secret show tonight in Chapel Hill

Before heading off to the U.K. to play the All Tomorrow's Parties Festival next week, Lost in the Trees will hit another small stage in Chapel Hill tonight (they opened for Islands at Local 506 about a week ago).

New music video from Lost in the Trees - "Red"

As you probably already know, Lost in the Trees are back on March 20 with their highly anticipated new album A Church That Fits Our Needs. They have just released the first music video for the album's first single "Red."

As we've come to expect from the band, the video features haunting images and a creative use of stop motion photography. There's also an odd bit of Ari Picker looking a bit like he practicing John Cleese's silly walks. Check out the video below.

Lost in the Trees releasing new album in March, hear "Red" now

A Church That Fits Our Needs cover
At long last, orchestra pop group Lost in Trees are releasing their second full-length album this spring. The album, titled A Church That Fits Our Needs, will released by Anti- Records on March 20. Check out the complete track list below.

NPR has debuted the first new music from the album, a song titled "Red," which you can stream below. It is a stunning track that should easily start getting the band even more national attention than they've gained over the last few years.

Also, check out a video about the making of the new album below, which includes insights into the tragic event, the death of Ari Picker's mother, that inspired much of the album (that's her on the album cover).
