Carolina Theatre announces 2012-13 lineup, Arlo Guthrie, Bela Fleck & many more

The Carolina Theatre in Durham just rolled out its 2012-13 Star Series and it's filled with a wide variety of music, comedy and more.

Obviously we're focused on the, music which includes performances from troubadour Loudon Wainwright III with Dar Williams, jazz saxophonist Dave Koz and Friends, folk trio The Kruger Brothers, legendary folk singer Arlo Guthrie, King of Calypso Harry Belafonte and some intriguing pairings with Mark Broussard and The Dirty Dozen Brass Band as well as pianist Brad Mehldau and mandolin player Chris Thile.

Check out the full lineup below. Tickets for single shows will go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 18, via the venue box office and Ticketmaster. Three-pack and five-pack tickets can be purchased starting at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 7.

WUNC announces 2011 Music on the Lawn series

This Friday, April 29, The Small Ponds will kick off WUNC's 2011 Back Porch Music on the Lawn concert series at the American Tobacco Campus in Durham.

This year's series is fantastic as a whole, but a performance by Chapel Hill born singer-songwriter Loudon Wainwright III towards the end of the season, on September 16, certainly stands out

Shows will happen on Fridays throughout the summer and will feature Steep Canyon Rangers, Holy Ghost Tent Revival, Chatham County Line and others. Check out the full schedule below. Each show starts at 6 p.m.

Duke Performances announces big shows for 2010-11 season

The first round of performers for Duke Performances 2010-11 season have just been announced and there are some great shows, a few of which we've already mentioned here. If you want to see the schedule without the exposition, you can jump to the bottom.

Things kick off with the big Megafaun, three-night "Sounds of the South" shows we spilled the beans on a few weeks ago. They will be joined by Richmond, VA-based big band Fight the Big Bull as well as special guests Justin Vernon of Bon Iver and Sharon Von Etten for what promises to be three amazing nights of music. Those shows are on September 17, 18 and 19.

Loudon Wainwright III annoucnes distant dates, playing Durham

The venerable singer songwriter Loudon Wainwright III, who spawned other excellent songwriters Rufus and Martha Wainwright, will be touring sporadically in 2010 which will eventually bring him to Durham on Friday, September 24. The show will be at Duke's Reynolds Theater. Ticket information is not available yet, but we'll keep you posted.

Wainwright's latest album is High Wide & Handsome: The Charlie Poole Project released in August. It is a double album paying tribute to the late singer and banjo player Charlie Poole.
