Chatham County Line and fans brave impending storm in downtown Raleigh

The wind was whipping in downtown Raleigh early Saturday afternoon as Chatham County Line took the stage to play the Planet Earth Celebration.

Though the wind rough at times throughout the set, a decent-sized crowd hung out to watch the quartet play songs spanning their entire catalog, starting with the title track from their latest album Wildwood.

"Confederate Solider" was a nice inclusion from the band's 2006 album Speed of the Whippoorwill as well as a fantastic version of the John Hartford tune "Tear Down the Grand Ole Opry."

Chatham County Line playing Planet Earth Celebration

This Saturday, April 16 is not only Record Store Day, but it also the day that the Planet Earth Celebration is going on in downtown Raleigh.

The event is free and this year there will be two 45-minute sets from Chatham County Line on the main stage on Edenton Street. There will also be performances by Viswas Chitnis and Countdown Quartet. Check out the full music schedule below.

Violet Vector and the Lovely Lovelies rock Planet Earth Celebration

Saturday afternoon was a beautiful day in the Triangle. Not only did we have some great weather but those in downtown Raleigh for the Planet Earth Celebration were treated to a great set by Violet Vector and the Lovely Lovelies.

The band played a killer set full of new and old songs that sounded phenomenal. Every time I've seen the band they just get better and better. And if the new songs are an indicator, the group's second EP due out this year on Color Wheel Records should knock your socks off. The new songs included "What's Going on in Your World?" which you can hear a rough mix of on MySpace.
