Alison Krauss, Steve Martin, Edie Brickell, Punch Brothers & more coming for Wide Open Bluegrass

As we first mentioned almost a year ago, the International Bluegrass Music Association is bringing their annual World of Bluegrass festivities to Raleigh for three years starting in 2013. Now we have the first details of the bevy of musicians who will be making their way here this fall.

Performances at the Wide Open Bluegrass Festival on September 27 and 28 at the Raleigh Convention Center and the Red Amphitheater will include a collaboration between Alison Krauss, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Béla Fleck, Del McCoury and Tony Rice in addition to Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers with Edie Brickell and Punch Brothers. Abigail Washburn will serve as the mistress of ceremonies for the event.

Alison Krauss & Union Station announce hefty tour, coming to Cary

Bluegrass superstars Alison Krauss & Union Station are back with their first new album since 2004's Lonely Runs Both Ways. They'll release the the album titled Paper Airplane on April 12 and will hit the road from June to September on a hefty U.S. tour to support it.

They'll return to Koka Booth Amphitheatre in Cary on August 11. The group last played the venue in 2007. Tickets will go on sale on Friday, April 29 at 10 a.m. via the box office and Ticketmaster for $39.50 or $54.50.

[UPDATE: Dawes is not slated to open the show, making this a show you certainly don't want to miss.]

The best 2009 Grammy performances

Here's a round-up of videos from last night's Grammy Awards for those who missed it or just didn't care to sit through the three and a half hour show. These are what I consider the best performances from last night. Radiohead doing "15 Step" with the USC marching band is quite awesome. Some of the videos are not the greatest, but the internet police are trolling YouTube removing some of the better videos. With that said, enjoy.

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss coming to Raleigh [UPDATED]

On the success of their duet album, Raising Sand, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss have extended their tour through July. Among these new dates is a stop at Raleigh's RBC Center on July 11.

The duo already have a North Carolina date on the books in Asheville on June 14. They will also hit a few big festivals including Bonnaroo and the New Orleans Jazz Festival.

We'll add ticket information for the RBC Center show as soon as we have it. Tickets for the RBC Center show will go on sale on Friday, April 18 at 10 a.m. Prices will range from $45 to $65.

In other concert news, Kenny Rogers, yes The Gambler himself, will play the Durham Performing Arts Center on December 11.
