Violet Vector & Mitch Easter rock Tir Na Nog

Despite the cold, rainy and downright miserable weather Thursday night, a good crowd turned to see Violet Vector and the Lovely Lovelies and Mitch Easter at Tir Na Nog. The Catch Fire was also scheduled to play, but they had to cancel. Karen Mann says the guitarist contracted H1N1. Yikes.

Unfortunately, I only caught the last few songs of Mitch Easter's set, but what I caught was sensational. It was just straight up jangly, loud rock and roll. Next time Easter is playing, I'll be early.

The gritty, garage pop of Violet Vector and the Lovely Lovelies was up next. The band delved into songs from their latest release, EP II, as well as a handful of unreleased tunes. It's always good to hear the next phase of songs from the band because they get better and better. The quirky pop of "Love is Everywhere" and the jangly, 12-string rock of "Hall of Gems" really stood out in the set. Only one song from EP I made the set, the always groovy "Serva Ad Manum."

The show featured Huguenots drummer Matt L'Esperance holding down the Vector beat. He did so quite nicely and hit some killer rolls throughout the night.

Violet Vector's next Triangle show is on December 12 at The Pinhook in Durham.

Violet Vector set list:
