Local North Carolina songwriters and dB's leaders Peter Holsapple and Chris Stamey closed out this year's magnificent Duke Gardens summer concert series.The duo, accompanied by three band members played a lengthy set comprised mostly of new songs from their just released album Here and Now. A few older tunes as well as a couple of Everly Brothers covers and a Chris Bell cover of "I Am the Cosmos" made it into the set too. Unfortunately, due to a couple of pile-ups on I-40, we missed the first part of the set, leading to the incomplete set list below. That, along with the gloomy weather likely led to a slightly smaller turnout than the rest of the series.
That didn't deter the band though. They played longer than any other act and by the time they finished the three-song encore, you could hardly see them under the stage tent. For a large portion of the set, Holsapple and Stamey sang into the same microphone, showing off their long-tested ability to harmonize with each other.
The show was a nice, mellow end to the successful Duke Gardens series, and we can't wait until next summer rolls around so we can do it all over again.
