The Love Language to play Chapel Hill tonight

Chapel Hill institution The Cave is getting new owners (the folks at Slim's) this week and the club is being rechristened with a big show tonight, October 1.

Things will get started at 9 p.m. with Old Bricks followed by a set by local superstars The Love Language. Admission will be $7 and there are no advance tickets. You'll want to get their early if you want to get in since the club holds less than 100 people.

As we previously mentioned, The Love Language will also play a big show at the Lincoln Theatre in November. Check out info on the show HERE.

New music from Superchunk - "Blinders" (slow version)

Local indie mainstays Superchunk have been laying low lately, but they've got a new free song to give away.

The track is "Blinders," which was actually released as a b-side to "Crossed Wires" in 2009, but the new version is slowed down, hence it being dubbed "slow version." Download or stream the song below.

Superchunk doesn't have any shows scheduled right now, but frontman Mac McCaughan will play an intimate solo set at The Cave in Chapel Hill on Saturday, February 11, opening for Tonk.

Hopscotch announces free April shows, new festival venues

To celebrate the announcement of the 2011 Hopscotch Music Festival lineup which will be announced on April 20, there will be three free shows across the Triangle on April 21, 22 and 23.

The big show will be at Tir Na Nog in Raleigh on Thursday, April 21 featuring The Rosebuds, Heads on Sticks, DJ SPCL GST and a fashion show hosted by Revolver Consignment. It starts at 10 p.m.

On Friday, April 22, Spider Bags, Last Year's Men and more will play The Cave in Chapel Hill. It starts at 9 p.m.

And finally, on Saturday, April 23, Schooner, The Loners and more will play The Pinhook in Durham. It starts at 9 p.m.

Saturday's Peter Case show moved to The Cave

Just a heads up to everyone heading out to see Peter Case's show scheduled for the ArtsCenter in Carrboro on Saturday, Aug. 7. There was a fire in the HVAC system at the ArtsCenter which happened sometime in the last few days, so the show has been moved.

Case will now play at The Cave in Chapel Hill at 452 1/2 Franklin St. on Saturday night. The show will now begin at 10 p.m. instead of the original start time of 8:30 p.m.

Tickets for the show will still be available at the door of The Cave, now for just $10 at the door. They were originally $18 for the public at the ArtsCenter.

Free music from The Dig, Chapel Hill show in June

Here's a cool new band (though they've actually been around since 2007) you should check out. Up-and-coming New York rockers The Dig have fuzzed out, catchy sound and strong songwriting make them a band to watch. They have offered up three free demos which you can download below. The tracks don't sound like demos though. They're incredibly polished, well-mixed and mastered tracks. "Penitentiary" is definitely the strongest and catchiest track of the three.

The Dig are currently on the road and heading for Chapel Hill in a few weeks. The band will play the late show at The Cave on Monday, June 15. Check out all of the band's upcoming dates below.
