Mountain Goats, Bombadil, Chris Stamey, Dex Romweber & more to play Eno Festival

The 34th annual Festival For the Eno will take place next Thursday and Saturday (July 4 and 6) at the Eno River Park in north Durham and this year the festival boasts a fantastic lineup of local music.

Among the hefty lineup are Chris Stamey and the Fellow Travellers, Dex Romweber Duo and Tom Maxwell and Minor Drag on July 4 and then the Mountain Goats, Bombadil and John Howie, Jr. and Rosewood Bluff on July 6. Check out the full lineup and schedule HERE.

Shovels and Rope announces spring 2012 dates, coming to Durham

Charleston husband and wife duo Shovels and Rope were among the many great bands announced to play the 2012 Hopscotch Music Festival in September, but you don't have to wait that long to see the band in the Triangle.

They're playing the Casbah in Durham on Wednesday, May 16. John Howie, Jr. and the Rosewood Bluff and Wylie Hunter will open. Tickets are on sale now via Etix for $10.

Chris Stamey, Dex Romweber Duo & more to celebrate Record Store Day at Schoolkids

We've been patiently awaiting the announcement of in-store performances scheduled for Schoolkids Records on Record Store Day, which is this Saturday, April 21.

The wait is over as the store announced on Monday that The Chris Stamey Quartet, John Howie and the Rosewood Bluff, Michael Rank and Stag and the Dex Romweber Duo will play the store. There will also be a "very special guest" which has not been announced yet.

[UPDATE: The final act stopping by Schoolkids for an in-store on Saturday will be Durham folk rock band Delta Rae who will also be playing the CueGrass Festival at The Pit in downtown Raleigh that day. The band will release their debut album titled Carry the Fire via Sire Records on June 19.]

This week's Local Band Local Beer: John Howie Jr. & The Rosewood Bluff & The Bayonets

This week's free Local Band Local Beer show at Tir Na Nog (on December 8) features Chapel Hill country folk band John Howie and The Rosewood Bluff along with Winston-Salem rock band The Bayonets.

Check out a number of songs from John Howie Jr. and The Rosewood Bluff via the widget below as well as the song "Hesitate" by The Bayonets.

As always, the music starts at about 10 p.m. and the show is ages 21 and up.

Big Alex Chilton tribute show to happen at Cat's Cradle

The passing of songwriting icon Alex Chilton last month dealt a blow to a great number of musicians who were deeply influenced by his music. On Friday, May 28 at the Cat's Cradle, an impressive line-up of local musicians will gather to celebrate Chilton's music for a night dubbed "Thank You, Friend: A Tribute to Alex Chilton."

Among the performers are Greg and Ann Humphreys, Tom Maxwell (of Squirrel Nut Zippers), John Howie, Jr. Stu McLamb and Missy Thangs (of the Love Language), Mitch Easter and the Able Hands and many more. Check out the full list below.
