Lost in the Trees announce duo show in Chapel Hill, release new song "Lady in White"

As part of the Carolina Union Activities Board's new PlusOne series (called that because every ticket purchased includes a second ticket for free), Ari Picker and Emma Nadeau of Lost in the Trees will play a special duo show in next month on campus.

The pair will play the Historic Playmakers Theatre on Monday, October 14. Tickets are on sale now HERE for $14 for the public and just $5 for UNC students.

The band just released a new song last week titled "Lady in White," which is quite a departure from the band's more heavily orchestral work from their previous releases. Check it out below.

Jessica Lea Mayfield announces fall tour, coming to Chapel Hill next week

Ohio singer-songwriter Jessica Lea Mayfield has been touring hard since the release of her Nonesuch Records debut Tell Me, which came out in February. Her current tour dates will keep her on the road until Thanksgiving, but she'll be stopping in the Triangle next week.

She'll play at the Historic Playmakers Theatre on UNC's campus on Tuesday, September 20. Student tickets are $5 and each student can buy two tickets with their OneCard. There is no word on whether there will be any tickets available to the public.

The Rosebuds play an intimate set at UNC

All photos by Kevin Norris
Local indie heroes The Rosebuds took the stage Thursday night at the recently-renovated Historic Playmakers Theatre at UNC. Though they got off to a late start, the group delivered an hour-long set that was just gentle enough, and a great appetizer for those who stopped by en route to the Destroyer show in Carrboro.

Kelly Crisp and Ivan Howard front the band, but the evening's performance featured other area musicians including Bowerbirds' Mark Paulson on bass and Lost in the Trees' Leah Gibson and Jenavieve Varga on cello and viola, respectively. The strings added another layer to the music that really helped it shine, particularly on "Life Like" and "Nice Fox."

Details of the show are not available at the moment, but we'll keep you posted. Tickets will be $10 for the public and just $1 for UNC students. They're available at the Memorial Hall box office.

Fellow Merge Records band Destroyer will be playing at the Cat's Cradle in Carrboro on Thursday, April 7 as well, so you could go from The Rosebuds to Destroyer. Good times, no?

Big Star's 'Third' to get a third performance in Chapel Hill

Appropriately enough given that the album is titled Third, the Chris Stamey led tribute to Big Star's album Third/Sister Lovers will get a third performance in Chapel Hill.

This performance won't be the same as the previous two shows at the Cat's Cradle. This will be a more stripped down, acoustic performance, featuring Chris Stamey and members of Lost in Trees, Old Ceremony, Birds & Arrows, The dBs, NC Symphony, Mayflies USA and the Tomahawks as well as guest vocalists Brett Harris, Sidney Dixon and Greg Humphreys.

The show is on Tuesday, February 15 at the Historic Playmakers Theatre in on the UNC campus. Tickets are $15 for the public and $8 or $10 for students. They're available now HERE.
