Divine Fits rocks through fiery set at Lincoln Theatre

Indie rock supergroup Divine Fits, featuring Britt Daniel of Spoon, Dan Boeckner formerly of Wolf Parade and Handsome Furs, and Sam Brown of New Bomb Turks, rolled into the Raleigh Sunday night to play a fiery show in support of their debut album A Thing Called Divine Fits.

The band got things started with "Neopolitans" and roared through a killer set including "My Love is Real," "Like Ice Cream" and "Would That Not Be Nice." Other than the songs from their debut album, the guys played a few fantastic covers, "Lost" by Frank Ocean" and "You Got Lucky" by Tom Petty.

The seasoned rockers played with the passion of a young band embarking on their first tour. They played with an energy and intensity that took the music to a new level. The crowd returned the band's energy, especially one guy near the front of the stage. He was so boisterous with his compliments between songs that Britt Daniel gave him a beer from the stage.

Only time will tell if Divine Fits will become a long-term project or if this will just be a one-off record, but hopefully the band will keep making music together because they certainly have a kinetic energy that's refreshing and exciting.

Cold Cave opened the show with a fantastic set of their own brand of dark, pulsing synth rock. The set wasn't quite as electrifying as their dark, sweaty set at the Pour House during Hopscotch Festival in 2011, but the band put on a nice, short set heavily pulling from their latest album Cherish the Light Years.
