The Rosebuds debut 'Sand + Silence' tunes at Duke Gardens

The Rosebuds returned to the Triangle last night to celebrate Merge Records' 25th anniversary and to debut songs from their forthcoming album Sand + Silence, due out on August 5 (on Western Vinyl).

After kicking things off with a few classics, "You Better Get Ready," "Back to Boston" and "Life Like," the band launched into their first single from the new album, the catchy "In My Teeth." Throughout the set the band debuted seven more songs from the new album for the crowd including the title track, "Wait a Minute," "Give Me a Reason" and "Blue Eyes."

The new songs sound fantastic and were an exciting preview of things to come. The quintet was definitely still working through a bit of rust from being off the road for so long, but the new songs blend well with old tunes in the set and continue the band's tradition of catchy melodies and hooks while exploring new textures and tones.

Kelly Crisp was big at interacting with the crowd, particularly a lively group of youngsters at the front of the stage who she gave various percussion instruments to play from the song "Shake Our Tree" on throughout the set. She got down from the stage to have fun with the kids on "Get Up Get Out" which you can see in last couple of photos below.

After a brief breather after closing the set with two new songs, the band quickly returned to the stage in a race to squeeze an encore in as the sun set. The rocked through "Woods" and then wrapped things as they have for quite a while now, with a big singalong on "Nice Fox."

It was great to see The Rosebuds back in the Triangle sharing their new music with a hometown crowd before they kick off their proper tour in August. They'll be back at the Cat's Cradle on August 2 for an official album release show.
