The Pietasters announce 2015 summer tour dates

DC ska band The Pietasters are hitting the road this summer to play a few east coast shows and one of those stops will be in the Triangle.

The band will play Cat's Cradle in Carrboro on Saturday, July 18. Corporate Fandango will open. Tickets are on sale now via Ticketfly for $14.

Ten punk, ska & hardcore bands team up for Dirty South Fest

This summer, ten punk, ska and hardcore bands will team up for a one day event in Carrboro dubbed Dirty South Fest 2012. The lineup includes Cro-Mags, The Pietasters, Flatfoot 56, The Queers, Ducky Boys, Patriot, Bad Idea, Antagonizers ATL, Hub City Stompers and Unit Six.

The festival will be at the Cat's Cradle on Saturday, June 30. Doors will open at 3 p.m. and the show will start at 4 p.m. Tickets are on sale now via Etix for $30.

There will be a pre-festival party the night before, on Friday, June 29, at Local 506 featuring DJs Midnight Cowboy, King Harold and Lauren Von Trap as well as live music from Jenny Woo. Tickets will be $7 at the door.

Album Review: The Pietasters - All Day

Call it a case of high school nostalgia, but I'm absolutely digging the new Pietasters album, All Day, released this week.

I was first introduced to this group, and ska music in general, when their album Awesome Mix Tape #6 was released, and honestly I haven't listened to them much in about four or five years. But certain things are hard to ignore when they come across your inbox and a few weeks ago I fould myself bopping along to their music like it was 1999.

With All Day (produced by James Brown's engineer Todd Harris), the Pietasters have more than paid homage to the sound coming out of Detroit in the 1960s. This album absolutely drips with Motown Cool right from the opening track "Change My Ways," with its old school drum and horn intro.
