Two more Downtown Live headliners announced

So the Raleigh Downtown Live people just announced that Filter will be headlining one of their 2009 summer concerts. This is no shocker — another band whose successful days passed a long time ago.

Here's the kicker though. The Charlie Daniels Band are headlining one of the shows. This is not what we had in mind at all when hoped the series would move away from 90's bands and washed up artists. I'll be far away from downtown on July 25 when "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" goes down.

So I think this kills any chance of the organizers booking a respectable, currently relevant act. But really, did we actually expect them to ever book a good act? No, no we did not.

Raleigh Downtown Live schedule:
05.30.09 - Candlebox
06.13.09 - Filter
07.25.09 - The Charlie Daniels Band

Candlebox to kick off Downtown Live in 2009

Continuing the trend of the past few years, the Raleigh Downtown Live concert series' first performer for 2009 has surfaced and is none other than Candlebox (we know this thanks to On the Beat). Yes, Candlebox. That band that had that one hit song, "Far Away," back in 1993 which was enough to help them move four million copies their self-titled album. The band will play the free Raleigh show on May 30.

So it looks like we're in for another bleak year of Downtown Live shows. We've come to expect it though. Happy holidays!

NC State Fair snags Daughtry for weekend performance

According to pollstar.com, Daughtry will be playing the J.S. Dorton Arena during the NC State Fair on Saturday, October 20. To that, I say bleh. I never expect anything from the fair booking agents, but that Nickelback wannabe Daughtry just makes me nauseous.

I have to say though, for the fair to actually be able to book Daughtry is impressive considering he's really riding high right now. His record has sold over 2 million copies and shows no signs of slowing down. This strengthens my theory that people will buy anything that is spoon-fed to them.

That's concludes today's rant.
